Bullying Concerns - Reporting/Resources

Bullying is a serious concern for both parents and the staff of Keith Middle School. 

Below you will find resources to help you determine if your child is being bullied, the New Bedford Public Schools Bully Policy and links you can use easily to report your concerns. 

We sincerely hope you don't ever need these resources, but hope that if you do, you find them easy to use and helpful!

What Bullying Is:


  • Repeated — The repeated use by one or more aggressor of a written, verbal, or electronic expression, or physical act or gesture toward a victim
  • Effect — Which has the effect on the victim of:
    • Causing physical or emotional harm
    • Causing damage to his or her property
    • Placing him or her in reasonable fear of harm or property damage
    • Creating a hostile environment at school
    • Infringing on his or her rights at school
    • Materially (in a significant way) and substantially disrupting the educational process or orderly operation of a school.

Cyber-bullying:

  • Use of technology — Bullying through the use of technology or any electronic communication (including email, internet, instant messaging, etc.)
  • Assuming the identity of another — The creation of a web page or blog in which the creator assumes the identity of another person, or the impersonation of another person as the author of posted comments, if these actions cause any of the effects listed above.
  • Distribution — The electronic distribution or posting of materials if this causes any of the effects listed.

  • Hostile environment is a situation in which bullying causes the school environment to be permeated with intimidation, ridicule, or insult that is sufficiently severe or pervasive to alter the conditions of the students’ education.

  • Target is a student against whom bullying, cyber-bullying, or retaliation is directed.
  •  
  • Retaliation is any form of intimidation, reprisal, or harassment directed against a student who reports bullying, provides information during an investigation of bullying, or witnesses, or has reliable information about bullying.

  • Retaliation against a person who reports bullying, provides information during an investigation of bullying, or witnesses, or has reliable information about bullying is prohibited.

  • Bullying is prohibited:


    • On school grounds
    • At a school-sponsored or school-related activity, function, or program, whether it takes place on or off school grounds.
    • At a school bus stop, on a school bus or other vehicle owned, leased, or used by Keith Middle School.
    • Through the use of technology or an electronic device that is owned, leased or used by Keith Middle School (for example, on a computer or over the Internet).
    • At any program or location that is not school-related, or through the use of personal technology or electronic device, if the bullying creates a hostile environment at school for the target, infringes on the rights of the target at school, or materially and substantially disrupts the education process or the orderly operation of a school.
