Sea Perch - Robotics

SeaPerch is an exciting and innovative, interdisciplinary underwater robotics program which is currently geared toward our grade 6 students at Keith Middle School. This program is in its 3rd year of sponsorship through the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC). NUWC is the U.S. Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weaponry systems associated with undersea warfare.

Within the program, students are using many of the skills they have been learning in their classrooms to construct a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for use underwater through the mentorship of engineers and programmers. Students have the unique opportunity to learn engineering and design principles throughout the ROV construction process.

The student's hard work culminates in a local competition of Greater New Bedford students from various middle schools. The SeaPerch program offers students numerous opportunities to learn from professionals in the field. We know that our students will take these skills and concepts with them into their college and career endeavors.
